Pre Junior & Junior Camp

Purpose Statements For Laurel Ridge Summer Camps

  • To enjoy and have fun with each other as children of God.
  • To relate to one another as interdependent human beings.
  • To experience an environment through which they may be guided into a deepening relationship with God through learning to appreciate God's creation and God's purpose seen in the order of creation.
  • To gain a deeper knowledge of the Bible.
  • To interpret life in the context of a relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • To develop a sense of being a part of God's Christian family.
  • To develop a sense of responsibility as a member of God's creation - a responsibility and a love for self, other people, and all living things.
  • To enjoy a week of being a youth (child) not a small adult.

Laurel Ridge Summer Camp
Camp for children completing grades 1-12 is available each summer. Below is information concerning Pre-Junior and Junior Camps:

PRE-JUNIOR CAMPS For children completing grades 1 and 2.
Our youngest campers bring such joy and wonder to Laurel Ridge. We delight in the wide-eyed, active, quiet and reflective children our Creator sends our way!

For many first and second graders this is their first time away from home, so we are especially attentive to their emerging sense of independence and their need for encouragement. We offer a higher staff to camper ratio for this two-night introduction to outdoor camp experience. Family groups, made up of two cabins, create a smaller community within the whole camp, so that campers can deepen their new friendships and can enjoy canoeing, swimming, hiking, music, crafts and games with this small group.

This year Pre- Junior 1 will run from Friday to Sunday and will be the only camp living at Laurel Ridge at that time. Pre- Junior 2 runs concurrently with Junior 3 camp, beginning on Sunday evening and ending Tuesday afternoon. Programming for Pre-Junior 2 will be separate, while facilities for the two camps will be shared.

Our wonderful deans and counselors listen with their hearts, model the life-giving love of Christ and take seriously--pure fun!

JUNIOR CAMPS For children who have completed grades 3-5
Our beautiful "mountain place set apart" is such a gift from God. Junior Camp is a place and time hallowed by Christ's presence in our community of sisters and brothers, where children are spiritually formed in ways that they will remember all their lives. Here Junior campers will find friends, kindness, fun, beauty, and Christian fellowship. We want to give campers, who are often "growing up too fast, too soon," a playful, creative, encouraging environment where they can enjoy the abundant life offered to them by Christ Jesus.

Junior Camps offer a total camp learning experience, rich in Scripture, song, worship and small groups. Cabins are paired together in family groups so that campers enjoy different communities of friends within the larger camp community. As in past years campers will have opportunities to participate in swimming, hiking, canoeing, woodworking, arts and crafts, archery, and the group interaction course. This summer we will be adding another special activity session each day so that campers can choose to hone one skill. Since volunteers offer different gifts each camp will have different choices ranging from archery, liturgical dance, drama, pastels, mosaics, canoeing, choir and much more.

Our leaders, most of whom are volunteers, work hard to create that community of loving friendship, which has always been a hallmark of Laurel Ridge!
