WE ARE MORAVIANS: YESTERDAY, TODAY & TOMORROW

A resource for adolescent Moravians who are interested in their Christian heritage as Moravians, and how they can strive to live it every day.

Introduction

A few years back in the midst of a Regional Youth Council retreat discussion in the South, the young people and adults there were talking about how young Moravians really do not know much about being Moravian. Their friends ask them about what being Moravian is all about, and they are bereft of anything much to say other than how much they like the cookies and the lovefeasts. There just did not seem to be much available tailored to adolescent aged young people about being Moravian. The discussion honestly moved on to related issues about the lack of attendance of their age group in Sunday School and their desire to not have to be “in school” so to speak to learn some of these things. Since a synod year was coming up, the discussion began to move toward offering a resolution to synod to have a resource created that was tailored to adolescent young people specifically on what they need to know about being Moravian, and how that may tie into their normal everyday lives as Moravian Christian teenagers. The resolution was created, sent to synod and passed in the Southern Province. Later that year a similar resolution passed in the Northern Province. This resource is the result of those resolutions. It is hoped by its creators that this resource will be useful in Sunday School, youth group, confirmation, or most any setting that a conversation with youth may center around being Moravian and living today. It is also hoped that this resource will be interesting, fun and useful for many years to come. Since this resource will live mostly in cyber space, surely there will be revisions and additions in the years to come, so bookmark it and refer back to it whenever there is the need. Also, perhaps young people can use it when they do get asked by their peers about what their Moravianized Christian faith is all about! Too bad we cannot offer cyber Moravian cookies! So here it is. Use it as you see fit.

Check back as there will be more subjects added in the months ahead.

Youth Worship Liturgies

This liturgy (10K PDF File) was composed by the Youth Worship Group at Friedland Moravian Church for their youth lovefeast in February, 2008. Over the season they studied the Ten Commandments given in Exodus as well as scriptures from Matthew, John, and Revelation to gain a better understanding of heaven.

This liturgy (10K PDF File) was written for the Provincial Youth Rallyfeast that took place in March of 2006.

This liturgy (10K PDF File) was written for a youth Sunday at New Philadelphia Moravian Church.

Liturgy of God's Leading (9K PDF File) was written by Jessica Parsons and Anne Cole Nicholson for the 2004 Provincial Youth Lovefeast.

This liturgy (9K PDF File) was adapted by Rev. John G. Rights and has been used at the Provincial Youth Lovefeast and at various Moravian youth services.

This liturgy (8K PDF File) is an original one written for a Provincial Youth Lovefeast a few years ago. If you have original liturgies you'd like to submit that could be used for a youth Sunday, e-mail them to Brad and they can be available here as well.
